Beverages
Cool fruity beverages or non-alcoholic drinks for spring and summer Ginger apple - 2 cups ginger beer, 1 and half cups apple juice, half a cup of lime juice, ice cubes. Combine beer and juices in a jug. Fill 4 glasses with ices and pour drink over. Serves 4 Pineapple - one and half cups of pineapple juice, one and half tbs of lime juice, 2 nectarines (stones removed and chopped), 3 cups ice cubes. Blend all until smooth. Serves 4 Ice peppermint tea - make a pot of tea using 2-3 tps of dried peppermint/mint leaves. Stand for 10 minutes and strain into a jug. Add iced water, 1 chopped lemon, ice cubes and fresh mint. Add sugar syrup to taste - make by mixing caster sugar with hot water and cooled. You can also make iced tea from ordinary black tea. Cool tea, add apple or lemon juice, honey or sugar - combine and add mint. Melon cooler - 4 cups cubed rockmelon/honeydew, 1 tsp grated fresh ginger, juice of 2 limes, quarter cup of iced water. Blend, pour over crushed ice. Serves 4 Fruity Blend - 4 oranges (peeled), 1 punnet strawberries, 2 cupes cubed pineapple, 1 banana, juice of 2 limes. Blend all. Serves 4 For a kick start in the mornings, combine soft fresh fruit, yoghurt, juice, and protein powder and blend. My teenager is very fussy about what she eats in the mornings - often it is nothing. So we created this drink which keeps her going for a while. I've even managed to train her to make the smoothie, and wash up the handheld blender and jug! Another refreshing drink is lassi - made from yoghurt, fruit (typically mango) and mineral water. TEA I love having tea at mealtimes and throughout the day. There is such a variety of teas to choose from. My preference during the day is a green tea and echinacea mixture. When we eat at Chinese restaurants we usually have Jasmine tea, while at Japanese restaurants we might have green tea. While in Korea I noticed quite a variety of teas in the hotel room which I tried - I'm not sure, but from the picture one of the teas looked like it was from bamboo. A warming tea for the winter months is chai tea. It contains a mixture of ingredients which often includes black tea, dried ginger, cinnamon, cardamon, cloves and is made with milk or soy milk. Some tea mixtures are combinations of herbs and are effective for digestion, relaxation, etc. Soon I'll have a bigger feature on teas.
